A pretty Irish wedding in the Algarve
Having attended lots of traditional Irish weddings, Celine and Patrick decided to do something different for their wedding celebration. Embracing Portugal's year round sun Celine and Patrick invited their guests to the Algarve for a sun soaked and laid back destination wedding party all captured by Passionate Wedding Photography...
Celine and Patrick met through work over five years ago. Celine remembers..."We had very little to do with each other at the time, but Paddy asked me out one night a few months later when we bumped into each other on a night out. I was planning on going to America for the Summer so we didn’t expect it to last, but when we ended up speaking to each other everyday, and spending an absolute fortune on phone bills we knew we might have found something a little bit special."
Celine continues..."Three years later, Patrick brought me back to the same beach that we had out first date on, and after texting my dad to ask for his permission to marry me, (he tried ringing but couldn’t get through) and getting a response from a shocked Daddy saying ‘Good man Paddy,’ he asked me to marry him. There were lots of tears and it is a day we often look back on and laugh at...My mum got such a shock, she drove up a one way street in the wrong direction when she found out!"
Once engaged Celine and Patrick instantly knew they wanted a destination wedding and began planning a sunny wedding in the Algarve.
Celine explains..."From the minute we started thinking about our wedding, we both agreed that we did not want the big traditional Irish wedding. We both love a good Irish wedding but it wasn’t for us. We didn’t want to feel under the same pressure as a lot of couples do, in terms of having to spend a lot of money on cars, flowers and all the other extras that can really add to the overall cost of the day. It was more important to us that the day was special, memorable, relaxed, fun and a treat for our guests. It was our guests who really made our day special, we couldn’t believe how many people travelled to be with us, and this was part of the reason why there were so many tears on the day (mainly from Paddy.)"
To make their venue feel more like home Celine and her mum handcrafted some of the decor, while Celine printed and hung photos of each of their guests. Patrick recalls..."I was stunned by the effort Celine went to in order to get photos displayed of all of our wedding guests, and the final product was totally worth it. It was such a personal touch and looked fantastic on the day.
